Post Conference and Workshops
After the conference and workshop, what will happen next – revised version
Thank you!
First of all, on behalf of the organizing committee and the expert group I would like to thank all of you who participated for contributing to an extraordinary conference and constructive workshop discussions! Interesting oral presentations and posters, and exchange of clinical experience, research findings and ideas between professionals from all over the world rendered these events more successful than we ever dreamed of. Especially the presentations by the invited speakers gave a lot of food for thought.
Publication of abstracts of oral presentations and posters
The abstracts of authors who signed permission to publish will be published in the Journal of Human Lactation in 2012 (possibly in the March issue, otherwise later).
Preparation of a final version of an expanded Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative for Neonatal Units
Numerous suggestions and comments were given during the workshops. Additional suggestions have been sent to the main moderators of each workshop for consideration in the revision of the drafts of the 3 guiding principles and 10 steps of an expanded Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative for Neonatal Units.
During the next phase, which commenced in Mid October, the main moderators will consider and integrate these suggestions into the sections of the document for which they are responsible. They will then send the revised versions to Ann-Pia Häggkvist in Oslo, Norway, who will compile the whole document. After that, the document will be returned to the expert group for renewed review. Finally, the expert group will meet in Denmark in the first week of February, 2012 for the purpose of reaching agreement on a final version of the document.
Publication and dissemination of the document
First of all, an article will be compiled for publication in the Journal of Human Lactation by the expert group, presenting evidence supporting the addition of the three guiding principles to the 10 steps. Regarding world wide dissemination of the complete document, the expert group received constructive advice by Randa Saadeh, with extensive experience of WHO activities, about how to proceed. Her suggestions included:
-
preparing the document as a complete package, including a monitoring tool which will be available for “everybody”, and an assessment tool for assessors,
-
approaching representatives of the World Health Organization and UNICEF for their response and advice regarding this document,
-
considering publication of the document in a scientific journal.
